SSERCA was established in 2010 as an extension of a New Florida Initiative grant which supported selected multi-institutional research projects. This initiative highlighted the benefits of collaboration between research universities. SSERCA has grown into an ongoing collaboration between Florida’s major research universities that seeks to make their resources available to enhance research, education, and economic growth throughout the state.

The mission of the Sunshine State Educational and Research Computing Alliance (SSERCA) is to promote the development of a state-wide computational science infrastructure of advanced scientific computing, communication and education resources through the collaboration of Florida’s public and private universities. Florida’s public and private Universities are home to talented scientists, high-end computing facilities, massive data storage systems, highly specialized research instruments, and high-speed networks. SSERCA brings together these geographically distributed organizations and resources in such a way that their collective impact is far greater than the sum of their individual parts.
